There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately as I see more and more AI-created images filling our social media feeds.

And no offense to AI — I actually love it.

I use AI in my business to make my workflow more efficient, brainstorm ideas, and get suggestions or feedback when I’m working through something. I even use AI very intentionally in my photography.

But there’s an important distinction.

The “A” in AI stands for Artificial.

When I use AI while editing your photographs, it’s to remove things that distract from the moment we actually created together — a leash, a little eye boogie or tear stain, a dead stick poking out of the ground, a stray hair, or a spot on someone’s clothing.

I don’t use it to create the photograph. I don’t use it to replace the scene, invent a different location, change what happened, or turn your real experience into something that never existed.

And lately, that feels more important than ever.

We’ve all seen those incredibly polished AI images and reels — adorable puppies, babies cuddling dogs, beautiful emotional portraits of someone with their beloved pet.

And yes, you could take an ordinary phone snapshot of you and your dog and ask AI to turn it into an incredible image of the two of you sitting together on top of a mountain, watching the sun disappear behind the horizon.

It might be beautiful.

It might get hundreds of likes and plenty of awwwwws.

But years from now, when you look at that photograph… what will you remember?

Will you remember the cool mountain air?

The warmth of your dog’s fur against your hand?

How hard you laughed when they suddenly got the zoomies?

The happy barking?

The sloppy kisses?

The way they looked at you with that completely uncomplicated, unconditional love?

Or will you remember that the “A” stood for Artificial?

When you book a session with me, I want our “A” to mean something very different.

Authentic.

Adorable.

Affectionate.

Amazing.

Because when you look at the photographs we create together, I want you to remember the experience behind them. The chaos. The laughter. The ridiculous moments that didn’t go according to plan. The softness of their fur. Their funny little habits. The way they ran toward you. The way they leaned into you. The look in their eyes when they forgot about the camera and were simply looking at their person.

That’s the part I never want to replace.

A photograph can be beautiful. But a photograph that holds a real memory is something entirely different.

So… what does your “A” stand for?
